Our Price: £14.99

The double CD contains four of Mozart’s most popular works and lasts for over 2 hours.

Disc 1 lasts for 52 minutes and contains the complete Requiem performed by Gachinger Kantorie & Bach Collegium Orchestra, Stuttgart. The latter’s repertoire include Bach’s Cantatas, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Bruckner’s Masses. The former have performed one of the only complete cycles of Bach’s Church Cantatas and also works by Brahms and Mendelssohn. They have appeared all over Europe as well as Japan, Israel, Mexico and the USA.

Disc 2 is 1 hour 11 minutes. We start with the Piano Concerto No.23 in A, KV488. Sir Neville Marriner conducts the world-famous Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, well known for their critically-acclaimed performances and recordings. The pianist is Ivan Moravec who regularly performs major concertos by Chopin, Debussy and Beethoven. In 1998 a 2-CD compilation of Ivan Moravec recordings was published as part of the landmark Philips series, Great Pianists of the 20th Century.

Next up is the Clarinet Concerto in A, KV622 performed by The Hanover Band and conducted by Roy Goodman, one of the finest period-instrument orchestras in the world. They have appeared at major concert venues including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, South Bank Centre, Royal Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall London. The soloist, Colin Lawson, has played principle clarinet for the English Consort and the London Classical Players; he has appeared as soloist in many international venues, including London's major concert halls and New York's Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

We finish with the Horn Concerto No.4 in E flat, KV465, recorded again by the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields conducted by the late Iona Brown who ‘was one of the most prominent female violinists and conductors of her generation’ (Telegraph obituary). The soloist is Timothy Brown who has performed and recorded the complete Mozart’s Horn Concertos with the Academy; he also is a soloist in their recordings of Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 oboes, bassoon, 2 horns and violin in F, RV574, Teleman’s Concerto for 3 horns and violin in D, Mozart’s Quintet for horn, violin, 2 violas and cello in E flat, K407 (386c), and the Brandenburg Concertos Nos.1-4.
